Before
we begin our stroll through camp, let's
first meet our tour guides, Camp Chateaugay's
Directors, Hal Lyons, and Laurie Roland.
The summer of 2003 was Hal and Laurie's
fifteenth summer running Camp Chateaugay.
Hal has been involved in summer camp administration
for 26 years! He spends the winter months
at his home in Connecticut with his wife
Molly and daughter Claire. Laurie has
worked with children all of her life.
She and her husband Bernie have two daughters,
Hillary and Michelle. During the winter
months, the Rolands live in Evergreen,
Colorado.
Nestled
in the scenic north shore of one of the
great Adirondack Lakes, Camp Chateaugay's
captivating wilderness is playground to
campers of all abilities. Built as a summer
estate in 1917, the camp's character has
evolved through many years.

| Today,
modern activities and amenities, coupled
with spectacular wilderness opportunity,
makes it foremost in a summer camp experience.
New campers quickly come to know the "Chateaugay
Spirit", based on lasting relationships,
happy memories and personal achievement.
A
professional and caring adult staff is
key to the success of Camp Chateaugay.
A fully-qualified staff consists of college
students, teachers, coaches, nurses and
a doctor -- providing a 2.5 to 1 camper/staff
ratio. |

Exceptional
instructors and counselors actively
encourage self-discovery among campers,
which in turn, promotes self-esteem.
In taking the opportunity to develop
new skills and favorite activities,
campers often find that they are talented
in a sport
or art that they never would have explored.
Campers are encouraged
to participate in team sports, fostering
a sense of community. They develop warm
and lasting friendships, as attested
to by the return of our campers... season
to season; generation after generation.
Campers feeling good about them-
selves while learning respect for one
another sets the groundwork for productive
and successful lives. Chateaugay will
continue to build on a solid foundation,
forever seeking ways to provide a secure
and supportive environment that nurtures
the growth
of its young people. |
